Charyn Canyon is a natural complex of nature, unique in its kind not only in Kazakhstan, but throughout the world. It was formed in the era of the Paleogene and resembles the Grand Canyon of Colorado in North America, although it is inferior in size. The height of the steep slopes of the canyon reaches 150–300m. The canyon’s meandering length is over 154 km. Numerous beams and ravines form a dense, disordered network. You can admire the grand panorama and then have a walk through the maze of the “Castles Valley.” Wind and water created here the most beautiful “Valley of Castles” where you’re always surrounded by whimsical towers composed of sedimentary rocks. The length of the valley is more than 2 km, the width is 20–80m.
